History of the Guild

The Grande Prairie Guild of Artists originated from a landscape painting class at Grande Prairie Regional College—now Northwestern Polytechnic (renamed in 2022)—taught by renowned artist Robert (Bob) Guest (1938–2017). When the classes were discontinued in the mid-1980s, several dedicated students formed an art club, which officially became The Grande Prairie Guild of Artists Society in 1983.

The Guild was established to foster camaraderie and provide a supportive environment for artists to grow and develop their unique styles. This mission was carried out through regular meetings, workshops, and art shows that encouraged creative exploration in the visual arts.

Although the group’s demographics have evolved over time, its core values of encouragement, support, and lifelong learning remain strong. Members continue the tradition of painting actively and growing both individually and collectively.

Displaying artwork in an art show is an exciting and rewarding experience for any artist. The Guild deeply appreciates the community’s ongoing support in providing venues and opportunities for exhibitions and sales. Special thanks to all the different venues throughout the Peace Country that have supported the guild over the years.
